Adam<\/em><\/a> (2018), an award-winning documentary that tracks the unlikely, decades-long partnership between Sterling \u201cMr. Satan\u201d Magee, a Mississippi-born bluesman and prophet, and Adam Gussow, a younger white harmonica ace.\u00a0 Joining forces on the streets of Harlem in the 1980s, riding out the racial turmoil of that era\u2014murders in Howard Beach and Bensonhurst, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=5Ny631yQ-DM\">Spike Lee\u2019s <em>Do The Right Thing<\/em><\/a>&#8211;Gussow and Magee end up becoming a national touring act and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.modernbluesharmonica.com\/satan_and_adam.html\"><em>Living Blues<\/em> cover story<\/a>.\u00a0 The duo falls apart after Magee\u2019s 1998 breakdown, then reunites in a late-life comeback story that leaves viewers profoundly moved.<\/p>\n<p>Magee\u2019s nephew Rod Patterson, aka \u201cSir Rod,\u201d was one of those viewers.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sirrodpatterson.com\/who-is-sir-rod\/\">An Atlanta-area singer, dancer, and motivational speaker<\/a>, he contacted Gussow in December 2019 with a proposition:\u00a0 Why don\u2019t we team up and keep my uncle\u2019s music\u2014and <em>your <\/em>music, the Satan &amp; Adam songbook\u2014alive?\u00a0 (Magee, it turned out, had lived with Patterson\u2019s family down in Florida only a couple of years before Gussow hooked up with him in Harlem; the two younger men had both been mentored into the blues by the same master musician.)<\/p>\n<p>The result of that conversation was a debut album, an exciting new act, and an explosion of creativity and brotherhood that can\u2019t be denied.<\/p>\n<p>Featuring Patterson up front, Gussow on amplified harmonica and drums, and Alan Gross on electric guitar, Sir Rod &amp; The Blues Doctors offer a powerful mix of down-home blues, old-school soul, and uptown funk.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/sirrodandthebluesdoctors.hearnow.com\/\"><em>Come Together<\/em><\/a>, recorded in Mississippi and released in the summer of 2020, highlights Satan &amp; Adam favorites, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=LDFRhhTs_0s\">&#8220;I Want You,&#8221;<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=995SXjWJTGU\">&#8220;Sanctified Blues,&#8221;<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=T_pPdUq6dNQ\">&#8220;Seventh Avenue,&#8221;<\/a> stirred together with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=retCfgoCO3M\">&#8220;What&#8217;d I Say,&#8221;<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=UJbtDl4bDPs\">&#8220;I Feel Good,&#8221;<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=FeHNyvc4EDs\">&#8220;Little Red Rooster,&#8221;<\/a> plus the catchy jam-band single, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=4WMvvjmFWOQ\">\u201cCome Together,\u201d<\/a> a Gussow-Patterson original that speaks prophetically to the COVID-19 crisis and the virus of racism.<\/p>\n<p><em>Come Together<\/em> also features a remake of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=vUTrG8r11ZA\">\u201cFreedom For My People,\u201d<\/a> the powerful anthem that was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=x6M2aWVx0LA\">excerpted on U2\u2019s multi-platinum album <em>Rattle &amp; Hum <\/em>(1988)<\/a>.
